There are so many legislations against discrimination especially on ill treatment due to a person's skin color, race, gender, religion or class. Media focuses so much attention on these particular topics maybe because they are the most wide-spread, but I suggest the attention should start focusing on discrimination in favour of your skin color, race or gender. Being half-Caucasian and growing up in the Philippines, I appear fair-toned compared to the other Filipinos. Problem with that, (and I’m sure other white people know about this) is that, people tend to charge me more because I appear to look whiter than them. The Filipino mentality, or should I say, any developing country’s mentality is, if you are whiter, you have more money, and therefore, we should be charged more. I think it is really lame that nothing has been done about this. People keep complaining about negative discrimination, but I think positive discrimination is just as bad. It is just the same in China, Thailand and Indonesia. If people are so concerned about equality, and fair treatment to all, then they should treat everyone fair too. I’m totally against developed countries using third-world countries for their cheaper industries, but I would not mind it being used as an advantage until people from third-world countries learn that fairness should go both ways.
