Rabbits came into the Easter celebration because rabbits, just like eggs, are the pagan fertility symbols of extreme antiquity. Birds lay eggs and rabbits multiply in the early spring, thats why these became symbols of the rising fertility of the earth during the spring season.
These pagan symbols have nothing to do with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Since Easter occurs on the Vernal Equinox, which is the event that the Sun is positioned directly over the Earth's equator, it is the same time the Pagan's celebrate the early spring with the pagan symbols.
In other parts of the world, religions which developed from Babel also associate rabbits as a sexual symbol of fertility and periodicity, both human and lunar. In other words, the Easter bunny symbolizes the Mother Goddess, (Goddess Semiramis) who is associated with the moon.

Pagan is a type of God right? Hmm...fertility? No wonder they are the mascot of Playboy! *wink* =)
I think pagan is pertaining to having no religion.. someone irreligious or someone who is not Christian, Jew or Muslim.. =)
Yeah haha.. I guess thats where playboy got it from =)
I am totally going to nerd you out here and say:
Paganism is a general term referring to polytheistic religions. Pagan was previously used as an insult to denote a heathen, or someone irreligious and morally corrupt, but these days it is rarely used in that way, due to the advent of political correctness (since Wicca, Druidism, Chinese ancestor worship, certain types of Hinduism, etc., would all be considered pagan by definition).
So basically, it would refer to a lot of non-Christians, non-Jews, and non-Muslims, because those are the three primary monotheistic religions prevalent today.
In addition, Easter as a holiday is developed from more pagan roots than you mentioned. Easter is derived from Ishtar, which was originally pronounced in a way similar to how we pronounce Easter today. That's why a lot of purist Christians prefer to call it Resurrection Sunday or Resurrection Day.
OK, i won't make you suffer any more.
