Rabbits came into the Easter celebration because rabbits, just like eggs, are the pagan fertility symbols of extreme antiquity. Birds lay eggs and rabbits multiply in the early spring, thats why these became symbols of the rising fertility of the earth during the spring season.
These pagan symbols have nothing to do with the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Since Easter occurs on the Vernal Equinox, which is the event that the Sun is positioned directly over the Earth's equator, it is the same time the Pagan's celebrate the early spring with the pagan symbols.
In other parts of the world, religions which developed from Babel also associate rabbits as a sexual symbol of fertility and periodicity, both human and lunar. In other words, the Easter bunny symbolizes the Mother Goddess, (Goddess Semiramis) who is associated with the moon.
